World Series Predictions
Okay, Astros fans. I know you're still getting over the hangover of having your World Series dreams crushed by the Cardinals, but try to clear your head for a moment and give us a prediction for the World Series.
I'm not a fan of either the Red Sox or the Cardinals, but I think it will be a great Series to watch because the teams are very evenly matched.
Tell us who's going to win and in how many games.

I picture the World Series coming down to Game 7 in Boston which happens to fall on Halloween night.
Now, you can look at that coincidence in two different ways - it's Halloween so the Curse of the Bambino will finally be lifted - or - it's Halloween so the Red Sox are screwed and the curse lives on.
I will go with the latter scenario and choose the Cardinals in Game 7, mainly because I don't think Schilling has 2 more miracle games in him on that bad ankle, and Pedro Martinez is the not the power pitcher that he used to be.
Cardinals in 7

My take on this pre-game yesterday, which I will claim is being born out by last night's developments, is that there is no point rooting for the Cardinals, because no matter what they do, the Red Sox will find a way to lose in 7 games. Thomas Boswell has a great column in today's Washington Post pointing out something that I have noticed also: there is one curse, but two implications: one is that they will always lose to the Yankees in dramatic fashion, which Boswell claims is now lifted (I'm not 100% sure, but inclined to agree); the other is that whenever they do on rare occasions get past the Yankees, they will find a way to lose the W.S. in heartbreaking fashion. He also points out that they have actually had more winning seasons than any other team, but never are able to win it all. That sounds a lot like my poor Astros.

As one who pays only passing attention to baseball---though it is my favorite of the professional sports---I have no standing or expertise on which to make a prediction. Nevertheless, it seems that the curse should last at least 100 years. In the best case, perhaps, it should last exactly 100 years. Then the victory over the curse would be all the more spectacular, and history, viewed by our grandchildren, will have been made more interesting.
