End of an Era

May 13 will mark the end of the Enterprise series and the first time in 18 years that there will be no new Star Trek series on the air. Since Next Generation started in 1987, there has always been at least one Star Trek spinoff in syndication or on broadcast television. In that time, 624 episodes from the Star Trek universe have been aired.
The most recent Star Trek movie, Nemesis, also had the lowest gross of any Star Trek movie. Could we be seeing the end of the Star Trek franchise?
A new Star Trek movie is in the works which will NOT involve any of the TV series characters. It's another attempt to revive the franchise by going in a totally new direction.
I never watched Enterprise for a few reasons not the least of which was that HORRIBLE theme song. WTF?
Did any of you watch Enterprise?
Why didn't it work?

Yeah, I just saw the cancellation notice this morning on slashdot.org. That's a big drag; Enterprise was just getting good.

Nemesis sucked so bad that I almost barfed! My favorite of the movies so far is First Contact.

I watched Enterprise. The first season was terrible for Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise. The original series and Deep Space Nine somehow managed to escape the absolutely-horrid-first-season syndrome. As bad as it is now, the Enterprise theme music was even worse (really pathetic drums) in the first season.

Enterprise did work in my opinion. The audience is just too lame. I really liked the temporal cold war stuff, although many ST fans disagree with me on that. And the latest episode had really great acting with respect to the Tellarites.

I admit that I have seasons 2-7 of TNG, and all other available TV Trek on DVD. I can't stomach the idea of actually paying for TNG season 1, even though there is one good episode, "The Big Goodbye".

Here's a trivia question: How is "The Big Goodbye" linked with my favorite of the Trek movies?

In Genesis, Abraham has a funny argument with God. God tells abraham about His intent to destroy Sodom. Abraham asks God if he would destroy it, the good men along with the bad, even if there were only 50 good men living there. God says that He would spare it for the 50. Then Abraham asks if He would spare Sodom for the sake of 45 good men. God says that He would spare it for the 45. Abraham continues down to ten good men, and God each time claims that for the sake of the good men, he will not destroy the city. At this point, God's patience wears thin and God (represented by three angels) walks away. The implication, of course, is that God would spare the city even for the sake of one good man, but God has limited patience.

I suppose that I cannot spare the first season of TNG even for the sake of one good episode.
