In Search of Greg Shaw
I just got off the phone with Walter who promised to post soon. A topic that comes up in seemingly every conversation with our cohort is do you know what's up with Greg Shaw? Use this post to record your last encounter...

So the last time I hooked up with Greg, I had a really good time catching up with him. It was something like '99 or 2000, and I was in Manhatten for the day visiting Shannon Stearman (who is still there). She mentioned that Greg had been in the city for a few months; I think he was maybe taking classes at Columbia or something. There were some transportation obstacles to overcome, but the three of us ended up meeting in a bar and we had a really great time.

My last encounter with Greg was so long ago; I don't even remember when it was.
(I do, however, think of Greg whenever I think of the bassoon. For example, I thought of Greg when I recently wrote in a private e-mail to Russell about my liking the Mozart Bassoon Concerto. I also think of Shannon whenever I think of the oboe, almost whenever I hear an oboe.)

I have not seen Greg since graduation. I actually think of Greg when I hear of kids starting to drive. He taught me how to drive--very brave of him since I did not have a license, and he had a stick shift (it may have been his brother's car, I can't remember). He let me practice on the drive to Austin to see his brother, I have to say a stick is still my favorite thing to drive.

I last knew what Greg was up to in the months before my wedding. I called his parents because I wanted to make sure he would get an invitation. They said he was living in the SF area working at a high paying technical type job. He didn't respond to the invitation. A few years before that he came to my parents' house for Christmas or New Years with charades like always. He had been volunteering at the Bronx Zoo (or another NY area zoo?) in the large mammal areas. He was really enjoying the elephants. There was other stuff going on, but the zoo info is what stuck in my memory. It was a great evening.
